MV Manga Vault Help

App Version vs Catalog Version

Manga Vault has two version numbers shown in Settings: the App Version (the version of the app itself) and the Catalog Version (the version of the manga data your app is using).

They’re separate. Updating one doesn’t update the other.

App Version

The version of the Manga Vault app installed on your phone. Examples:

  • 1.0.0
  • 1.2.3

This updates when you update the app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).

Catalog Version

The version of the manga catalog (series, volumes, ISBNs, cover art) that the app is using. Examples:

  • 1.0.4
  • 1.0.5

This updates frequently as we publish new catalog entries — daily or even hourly during active periods.

Where to see both

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Scroll to the About section.
  3. Both App Version and Catalog Version are listed.

Which one updates more often?

Catalog Version updates much more often — sometimes multiple times a day as we approve and publish new manga entries. App Version updates on a slower cadence (weeks to months between releases).

Why two versions?

The app and catalog are decoupled by design:

  • The app is the code (UI, features, etc.) — installed once, updated occasionally.
  • The catalog is data (every manga we know about) — updated continuously.

This means you don’t need to update the app every time we add new manga. The catalog flows through automatically.

Updating the app

App updates happen via the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android):

  • iOS — Auto-update enabled by default. Or open the App Store → tap your profile → updates list.
  • Android — Auto-update via Play Store. Or open Play Store → My apps & games → updates.

App updates bring new features, bug fixes, and UI improvements.

Updating the catalog

Catalog updates are automatic via the app’s sync mechanism:

  • On app launch.
  • On returning from background.
  • On a push from our servers (when push notifications are fully active).

Or you can force a manual sync by tapping the Catalog Version row.

Why my Catalog Version is older than what I see online

If you see a higher version on our website or release notes than what your app shows, your local sync might not have picked up the latest yet. Force a manual sync.

App Version older than current

If your App Version is older than the latest release, you should update the app from your store. Older app versions may have known bugs or incompatibilities with newer catalog data.

Hidden debug panel

Tap the Catalog Version row 5 times in quick succession to open the hidden debug panel showing all version sources (bundled, cached, in-memory, CDN). Useful for diagnosing sync issues.

Why is App Version stuck at the same number?

App Version only changes when you update the app. If you haven’t updated in a while, it’ll stay the same. Auto-update should catch most updates; if you’re skeptical, manually check the App Store or Play Store.

Tip

If you’re reporting a bug, include both your App Version and Catalog Version. It helps us reproduce the issue accurately.
