Forcing a catalog sync
The Manga Vault catalog syncs automatically — you generally don’t need to think about it. But if you want to ensure you have the latest catalog (e.g., right after a request was approved), you can force a manual sync from Settings.
When automatic sync happens
The catalog refreshes automatically when:
- You launch the app.
- The app returns from background after some time.
- A push notification tells the app a new catalog version is available (when push is fully active).
In normal use, the catalog stays current without manual intervention.
How to force a manual sync
- Open Settings.
- Scroll to the About section.
- Tap the Catalog Version row.
The app immediately checks for an updated catalog. You’ll see a brief loading indicator. Within a few seconds, the catalog is refreshed.
What syncing pulls
A catalog sync downloads:
- New series and volumes added since your last sync.
- Updated cover art and metadata for existing entries.
- Any catalog corrections.
The sync is incremental — only changes are downloaded, not the full catalog. This keeps it fast and data-efficient.
When to manually sync
- Right after a request was approved. If a catalog request you submitted was just approved, syncing manually catches the new entries faster.
- After seeing “Coming Soon” too long. If a volume seems stuck at Coming Soon, a manual sync sometimes resolves it (the publish step might have just completed).
- After noticing a catalog inconsistency. If you’re seeing wrong cover art or stale data, a sync may pick up corrections.
What syncing does NOT do
- Doesn’t change your collection.
- Doesn’t sync your profile or settings.
- Doesn’t refresh friends or social data.
- Doesn’t change anything outside the catalog itself.
For a full account refresh, also pull-to-refresh on the Library tab. See Refreshing your collection.
How long does syncing take?
Usually a few seconds for incremental updates. Larger sync operations (e.g., after months without syncing) might take 10–30 seconds.
I don’t see a Sync button
The sync action is on the Catalog Version row in the About section of Settings. Tapping the version number performs the sync.
Sync failed
If a sync fails (network error, server issue):
- Try again in a few minutes.
- Check your internet connection.
- Force-close and reopen the app, then try again.
Hidden debug panel
For advanced users, there’s a hidden debug panel that shows detailed sync info. Tap the Catalog Version row 5 times in quick succession to reveal it. The panel shows:
- Bundled (compiled-in) catalog version
- Cached (downloaded) catalog version
- In-memory active catalog version
- The CDN-side current version
This is useful only if you’re debugging a sync issue. Most users will never need it.
Tip
If the version on your device doesn’t match the latest release, tap-sync, then check again. After sync, the version should match the CDN.
