Lending a manga from the detail page
You can lend any volume in your collection to a friend or to an external borrower (someone outside Manga Vault). The lending flow starts from the manga detail page.
How to start a lend
On the manga detail page of an Owned volume:
- Scroll down to the Lending section.
- Tap Lend This Manga.
- The Lend modal appears.
Filling out the Lend modal
Borrower type
Choose between:
- Friend — A friend who’s already on Manga Vault. We’ll show them in a picker so you can select.
- External — Anyone outside the app. You’ll type their name.
Friend picker
If you chose Friend, a list of your accepted friends appears. Tap the friend you’re lending to. You’ll see:
- Their avatar (or icon)
- Display name
- Verified badge (if they have one)
- PRO badge (if they have one)
External name
If External, type the borrower’s name (e.g., “Sarah from work”).
Due date (optional)
Pick a date for when you expect the volume back. If you set a due date:
- A countdown shows on the lending tracker.
- You’ll get a notification when the loan is overdue (when notifications launch).
You can leave the date blank if you don’t want a deadline.
Notes (optional)
Add a short note for your own reference (e.g., “Lent at the cafe”, “Loan for trip”, etc.).
Save
Tap Lend to create the lending record.
What happens after you lend
- A Lent Out banner appears at the top of the manga detail page.
- The volume shows a lent indicator in your Library (a small icon overlay).
- An entry is added to the Active tab in the Lending Tracker.
- The volume is still part of your collection — it doesn’t get removed.
Marking a loan as returned
When the volume comes back:
- Open the manga detail page.
- Tap the Lent Out banner.
- Tap Mark as Returned.
- Confirm — the loan moves to the Returned tab in the Lending Tracker, and the lent indicator disappears from your Library view.
You can also mark as returned from the Lending Tracker screen directly. See The Lending Tracker.
Lending the same volume to multiple people sequentially
Each lend is a separate record. Lend to Person A, mark returned, then lend to Person B — the Lending Tracker shows the full history.
Can I lend a Wishlist volume?
No — only Owned volumes can be lent. Wishlist items aren’t in your possession by definition.
Privacy
Lending records are private to you and the borrower. Friends viewing your profile don’t see who you’ve lent volumes to or which volumes are currently out.
Tips
- Track even casual loans. Even quick “borrow it for the weekend” loans benefit from being logged — it’s easy to forget who has what.
- Set a due date for yourself. Even an arbitrary one helps prompt you to check in if it’s been a while.
- Use Notes for context. “Lent at the comic con” is the kind of detail that can save you a year later.
