What happens when PRO expires or is cancelled

When your PRO subscription expires (or you cancel and the current period ends), here’s exactly what changes — and what stays the same.

What stays

Your data is fully preserved. Specifically:

  • Every volume in your collection (Owned and Wishlist).
  • Custom values you’ve set on individual volumes.
  • Conditions you’ve set on individual volumes.
  • Reading progress on every volume (page numbers, status, re-reads).
  • All your shelves and shelf assignments — even if you have more than 3 custom shelves.
  • Friends, friend requests, profile, privacy toggles.
  • Lending records (active and returned).
  • Achievements you’ve earned.
  • Reading streaks.
  • Profile customizations (display name, username, bio, favorite genres, avatar, cover image).

We don’t delete or hide anything when PRO expires.

What changes

Volume cap re-applies

The FREE tier 50-volume cap applies for adding new volumes:

  • If you currently own ≤ 50 volumes — no impact.
  • If you currently own > 50 volumes — your existing volumes stay, but you can’t add new ones until you’re back at or below 50, or you renew PRO.

You can move some volumes to Wishlist (which doesn’t count toward the cap) to free up slots.

Quick Scan turns off

The Quick Scan toggle on the Scan tab disappears. Your scans go back to showing the standard confirmation modal.

Premium themes revert

If you were using Ocean, Sakura, Ember, or Matcha (PRO themes), the app falls back to the default Violet theme. Your saved theme preference is preserved — when you renew PRO, it’ll switch back automatically.

Collection Value hides

The Collection Value card on the Social tab shows $ --- instead of a dollar amount. The Collection Value screen still opens, but values are hidden.

Your custom values on individual volumes are still saved — they just don’t display in totals.

Custom shelves capped at 3

If you had more than 3 custom shelves on PRO, all of them stay — you can keep using and managing them. But you can’t create new shelves until you’ve deleted enough to be under 3, or you renew PRO.

The Favorites default shelf still doesn’t count.

Advanced stats hide

The advanced statistics views (deeper genre / publisher / author breakdowns) become unavailable. Basic stats (total volumes, completion percentage) remain visible.

Data export limited

JSON export remains available (FREE feature). CSV export disappears (PRO feature).

Avatar/cover image uploads

Existing uploaded avatar and cover images stay — they’re not deleted. But you can’t upload new custom images until you renew. You can revert to icon avatars on FREE.

Request rate limit lowers

Catalog request limit drops from 100/hour back to 30/hour.

What if I had more than 50 volumes when PRO expired?

You’re not penalized retroactively. All 100, 200, 500 volumes you had on PRO stay. You just can’t add new volumes until you’re back under 50 (by deletion) or renewing PRO.

Renewing PRO

If you renew (re-subscribe), all PRO features reactivate immediately. Your custom theme returns. Quick Scan toggle reappears. Collection Value re-displays. Custom shelves > 3 are usable again.

Renewal timing

For automatic renewals (cancellation that you reverse before the period ends), nothing changes — the subscription continues seamlessly.

For manual re-subscription after a gap, your account flips back to PRO once the new subscription is processed (usually within seconds).

Tip: Check your Quick Scan was off

If you’re a power user who was relying on Quick Scan and you cancelled PRO, you may inadvertently start adding volumes the old (with-modal) way. That’s fine — just be aware your scan flow has changed.

I cancelled by accident

If you accidentally cancelled and want to keep PRO:

  1. Go to Apple/Google subscription settings (see Managing your subscription).
  2. Reverse the cancellation before the current period ends — Apple and Google both let you turn auto-renew back on.
  3. Your subscription continues uninterrupted.

If the cancellation has already taken effect (the period ended), just re-subscribe.
