Catalog updates

The Manga Vault catalog is updated regularly with new series, new volumes, corrections, and additional metadata. Here’s how updates work and how they reach your app.

How often updates happen

Catalog updates are continuous:

  • New volumes — Added throughout the day as approvals are processed.
  • Cover art improvements — Periodically refreshed.
  • Bulk additions — Larger batches of new series / older volumes are added in periodic catalog refreshes.

Most days see at least a few new volumes added. Big update batches happen weekly or so.

How updates reach your app

Two delivery mechanisms:

Incremental sync

When new data is published, the app downloads only the changes (a delta) since your last sync. This is fast and bandwidth-efficient.

This happens:

  • On app launch.
  • On returning from background after some time.
  • On a push notification when push is fully active (a “new catalog version is available” signal).

Full sync

If your local catalog is significantly behind (e.g., you haven’t opened the app in months), you may get a full catalog sync. This is slower but ensures your data is current.

Manual sync

You can force a sync any time:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Catalog Version.

This pulls down any pending updates and refreshes your local catalog.

What’s in a catalog update

A typical update includes:

  • New approved volumes (from user requests and our own catalog work).
  • Cover art for previously-cover-less volumes.
  • Metadata corrections (wrong page counts, release dates, etc.).
  • New series we’ve added.

Catalog version numbers

Each published update increments the catalog version (e.g., 1.0.4 → 1.0.5). The version on your device should match the latest published version after sync.

To check:

  1. Settings → Catalog Version.
  2. Compare against our public release notes (when available) or watch for the next release.

What happens if I miss many updates

If you don’t open the app for an extended period (months), your catalog falls behind:

  • Newly-released manga won’t be in your catalog.
  • Scanning a recent volume may show Not Found even though it’s actually been added.

Force a catalog sync to catch up. Manga Vault uses incremental syncing, so even being many months behind doesn’t take a huge download — just longer than a normal sync.

My local catalog version is older than the latest

Some causes:

  • You haven’t synced recently. Open Settings → tap Catalog Version.
  • Sync failed. See Sync failure banner.
  • You’re offline. Updates resume when you reconnect.

I scanned a volume that should be in the latest catalog but it shows Not Found

A few possibilities:

  • Your catalog isn’t synced. Force a sync.
  • The volume was added very recently and your sync was just before it. Wait a moment, sync again.
  • The volume genuinely isn’t in our catalog yet. Submit a request.

Catalog updates and the bundled snapshot

When you install or update the Manga Vault app, the bundle includes a catalog snapshot. After install, the app syncs additional updates from the cloud.

Updating the app doesn’t replace your synced catalog — it just refreshes the bundled snapshot. Your local cache continues to grow as you sync.

Privacy

Catalog updates are public bibliographic data — no personal information involved. Catalog sync doesn’t involve any of your account data; it’s strictly catalog content.

Tip

If you scan a lot, sync your catalog before a long scanning session. Up-to-date catalog data means fewer Not Found surprises.
