Why I see “Coming Soon” right after a request is approved
You submitted a catalog request, our team approved it, and you got the email — but when you scan the volume, you still see “Coming Soon” instead of the normal Found card. Here’s why and what to do.
The two-step lifecycle
Catalog requests have two stages after submission:
- Approval — Our team reviews and approves the request. The volume’s metadata is added to our backend.
- Publish — The catalog is published, making the volume available in the app.
These are separate. A request can be approved but not yet published.
Coming Soon = approved but not yet live
When your scan returns Coming Soon, it means the volume is approved (good news!) but the catalog hasn’t yet been published with it included.
Catalog publishes happen on a regular cadence — usually within minutes after approval, but sometimes a bit longer if our team is processing many requests.
How to resolve
The fastest path:
- Wait a few minutes (the publish often happens shortly).
- Open Settings.
- Tap Catalog Version to force a manual sync.
- Try scanning again.
If the publish has happened and you’ve synced, the volume should now show as Found.
Auto-sync on Coming Soon
The Coming Soon modal automatically tries to sync your catalog in the background. Often, this auto-sync finds the volume and the modal flips to the Found card without you needing to do anything.
If auto-sync doesn’t immediately resolve, you’ll see the Coming Soon UI — that’s when you’d want to retry manually.
Why my volume has been “Coming Soon” for hours
Possible causes:
- The catalog publish is taking longer than usual. Sometimes during heavy review periods, the gap between approval and publish stretches to hours.
- A specific publish job is stuck. Rare, but our team monitors for this.
- Your sync is stuck. Try forcing a manual catalog sync.
If a volume has been Coming Soon for more than a day, contact support with the ISBN.
Checking my requests
To see the status of every catalog request you’ve submitted:
- Open Settings.
- Tap My Requests.
Each entry shows a status: Pending / Approved / Published / Rejected.
If a request shows as Published but you still see Coming Soon when scanning, force a catalog sync.
Approved vs Published vs Coming Soon — quick reference
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pending | Awaiting review. Could be days. |
| Approved | Reviewed and accepted. About to be published. |
| Published | Live in the catalog. Should show as Found in the app. |
| Coming Soon (in app) | Approved or published but your local catalog hasn’t synced yet. |
My request got rejected
We send a separate notification with the rejection reason. Common reasons: duplicate ISBN already exists, the barcode isn’t manga, or insufficient info.
You can resubmit with more details.
Tip
Notification emails for catalog requests give you a heads-up when status changes. Make sure you’re getting them — they sometimes go to spam.
