MV Manga Vault Help

Dark mode

Manga Vault supports both light and dark mode. You can pick a fixed mode or sync with your phone’s system setting.

How to change dark mode

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Find the Appearance section.
  3. Tap Dark Mode for options:
    • Light — Force light mode regardless of system.
    • Dark — Force dark mode regardless of system.
    • System — Follow your phone’s system-wide light/dark setting (default).

The app updates immediately when you change.

What dark mode looks like

In dark mode:

  • Backgrounds switch to dark grays/blacks.
  • Text becomes light.
  • Cards and surfaces have subtle borders for definition.
  • Theme gradients adapt — slightly desaturated for comfortable contrast.
  • Cover art is unaffected.

When to use dark mode

  • Reading at night — Less eye strain in low light.
  • Battery savings — On phones with OLED screens, dark mode uses meaningfully less power.
  • Personal preference — Some people prefer dark UI all the time.

Light mode

Light mode is the classic interface — bright backgrounds and dark text. Often more legible in bright outdoor conditions.

System (auto)

System mode follows your phone’s setting:

  • iOS — Settings → Display & Brightness → Light/Dark/Auto.
  • Android — Settings → Display → Dark Theme.

If you’ve set your phone to switch automatically (e.g., dark at night, light during the day), Manga Vault will follow.

Preference syncs across devices

Your dark mode preference (Light / Dark / System) syncs across signed-in devices. Change it on your phone, your tablet picks it up next sync.

Themes and dark mode

Themes (Violet, Ocean, Sakura, Ember, Matcha) work alongside dark mode. Each theme has both light and dark variants:

  • Violet + Light = Bright violet gradient, light backgrounds.
  • Violet + Dark = Same violet gradient, dark backgrounds.

You don’t have to choose between dark mode and your favorite theme — they work together.

Accessibility

We follow the system’s text size and accessibility settings. If you’ve increased text size system-wide (Display & Text Size on iOS), Manga Vault scales accordingly.

Why some elements look different in dark mode

Some UI elements (cards, dialogs, action sheets) get darker backgrounds with subtle borders in dark mode rather than the white surfaces they have in light mode. This is intentional for visual hierarchy.

Cover art is always full-color

Manga cover art is shown in its original colors regardless of mode. We don’t tint or desaturate covers — that’s the artist’s work.

Tip

If you find yourself frequently switching, System mode is the most natural — your phone already knows when to be dark vs light, and Manga Vault just follows.
