Deleting your account

Deleting your account is permanent and removes all your data from Manga Vault. We use a 30-day grace period — after you initiate deletion, you have 30 days to cancel before the deletion is finalized.

How to delete

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Scroll to the Danger Zone section.
  3. Tap Delete Account.
  4. A modal appears explaining what will be deleted.
  5. Type your acknowledgment (e.g., “DELETE”) in the text input.
  6. Tap Schedule Deletion.

What happens immediately

  • Your account is marked as scheduled for deletion.
  • A confirmation email is sent to your account email with the deletion ID and scheduled date.
  • You’re signed out of all devices.

The 30-day grace period

For 30 days after scheduling, your account is in a soft-deleted state:

  • Your data still exists on our servers.
  • You can sign back in during the grace period to cancel.
  • Your data is hidden from friends and other users.
  • New friend requests don’t reach you.
  • You don’t receive any communications.

Cancelling within the grace period

Just sign back in. You’ll see a recovery modal that lets you cancel the deletion. See Cancelling a scheduled deletion.

After 30 days — permanent deletion

When the grace period ends:

  • Your account is permanently deleted.
  • All data is removed from our servers (collection, profile, friends, etc.).
  • The username you used becomes available for someone else to claim.
  • Your friend code is freed up.
  • Re-creating an account with the same email starts completely fresh — no recovery.

You’ll receive a final confirmation email when permanent deletion completes.

What gets deleted

Everything tied to your account:

  • Collection (every volume)
  • Profile (display name, username, bio, avatar, cover image)
  • Privacy settings
  • Friends list and pending requests
  • Achievements and XP
  • Lending records
  • Subscription history
  • Authentication credentials

What’s anonymized (not deleted)

A few things stay in aggregate, anonymized form:

  • Catalog requests you submitted (these become anonymous — they don’t reference your account but the catalog data stays).
  • Audit logs (we keep records of system events for 7 years per legal requirements; these don’t include personal data after deletion).

Cancel your subscription separately

Deletion doesn’t cancel an active PRO subscription. Apple/Google manage subscriptions independently. If you have an active subscription:

  1. Cancel the subscription via Apple/Google subscription settings (see Managing your subscription).
  2. Then delete your account.

If you delete without cancelling, you’ll continue to be charged until you cancel via Apple/Google. Your account is gone but the subscription billing isn’t.

Friends and lending records

When you delete:

  • You disappear from friends’ Friends list.
  • Past lending records on friends’ accounts show your last-known display name (since your account is gone).
  • Outstanding lending records (where they lent to you) stay visible to them but with no contact info.

Why a 30-day grace period

People delete accounts impulsively, regret it days later, and find their data is gone. The grace period gives time to reconsider — most users who change their mind do so within a week.

If you want immediate deletion, contact support to request expedited removal.

Compliance

This deletion process is designed to comply with GDPR (EU), CCPA (California), and similar privacy regulations worldwide. You have the right to delete your data, and we make it possible without friction.

Privacy after deletion

After permanent deletion:

  • We don’t retain any personal data.
  • Aggregate, anonymized data may persist (e.g., catalog requests).
  • You’re not findable by friends.

Manga Vault keeps deletion logs for accountability (timestamp, deletion ID), but those logs don’t contain your personal data after the data is purged.

Tip

Export your data before deleting if you want a personal backup.
