MV Manga Vault Help

What if my edition isn’t in the catalog?

Even with a growing catalog, you’ll occasionally scan a volume we don’t have yet. Here’s what to do.

Step 1 — Request that we add it

The fastest path is to submit a request from the Not Found modal:

  1. On the Not Found result, tap Request this volume.
  2. Add as much detail as you can (title, series, author, publisher).
  3. Tap Submit.

Most requests are approved within 2–5 days. Once approved and published, you can scan again and add the volume normally.

See How to request a manga for the full walkthrough.

Step 2 — Track it manually in the meantime

If you don’t want to wait, you can create a manual entry — a custom Library record where you fill in the details yourself. Manual entries:

  • Don’t get cover art (you’ll see a placeholder).
  • Aren’t linked to a series in our catalog.
  • Don’t show up in series tracking, recommendations, or some achievements.
  • Convert easily to a “real” entry once the catalog adds the volume.

To create a manual entry:

  1. Open the Scan tab and tap Enter ISBN Manually.
  2. Type your ISBN and tap Look Up.
  3. On the Not Found modal, tap Add Manually instead of Request.
  4. Fill in title, author, publisher, and any other details you want to track.
  5. Tap Save.

The volume appears in your Library with the details you entered.

Common reasons editions aren’t found

  • It’s a recent release. Catalog updates can lag a few days behind store releases.
  • It’s a small-press or indie release. We’re working on coverage but smaller publishers aren’t always in our data sources.
  • It’s a special edition. Box sets, omnibus, hardcovers, deluxe editions, and limited prints sometimes have separate ISBNs that aren’t always in the catalog yet.
  • It’s an out-of-print or older release. Pre-2000s manga can be harder to verify.
  • The barcode isn’t a manga ISBN. Sometimes barcodes are for shrink-wrap, retailer-specific packaging, or related merchandise — not the volume itself.

Manual entries vs requests — which should I do?

If you want a quick placeholder, do a manual entry. If you can wait, request — you’ll get the full experience when it’s approved.

You can also do both: submit a request to get the proper entry queued, then create a manual entry as a placeholder. Once the request is approved and published, scan again and the new “real” entry will be linked.
