The 50-volume limit on FREE
The FREE tier of Manga Vault supports up to 50 owned volumes in your collection. PRO removes this cap entirely. Here’s how it works.
What counts toward the limit
Only Owned volumes count. Specifically:
- Each volume marked as Owned counts as 1 toward the cap.
- If a volume has quantity > 1 (you own multiple copies), it still counts as 1.
What does not count:
- Wishlist items (no cap on wishlist size).
- Volumes you’ve lent out (still count as Owned, but they’re not extra).
- Removed/deleted volumes.
What happens at 50
When you have exactly 50 owned volumes and try to add a 51st (via scan, manual entry, or import), you’ll see an upgrade prompt:
- “You’ve reached the FREE tier limit of 50 volumes. Upgrade to PRO for unlimited collection size.”
You can:
- Upgrade to PRO — Unlocks unlimited collection size + several other features. See What PRO unlocks.
- Make room — Delete an unwanted volume or move one to your Wishlist.
What if I’m already at 51+ when my PRO subscription expires?
If you were on PRO with 100 volumes and your subscription expires:
- All 100 volumes stay in your collection — we don’t delete anything.
- You can’t add new volumes until you’re back under 50, or until you renew PRO.
- All other features (browsing, shelves, friends) continue to work.
Wishlist as a workaround
If you’re approaching the cap, you can keep tracking volumes you want by adding them to your Wishlist instead of marking them as Owned. There’s no cap on wishlist items.
Approaching the limit warning
When you have 40+ owned volumes (80% of the cap), a small warning banner appears at the top of your Library:
- “You’re approaching the 50-volume limit. Upgrade to PRO for unlimited collection.”
Tap the banner to learn about PRO.
Why is there a limit?
Manga Vault is free for casual collectors and a small subscription for power users. The 50-volume cap on FREE keeps the service sustainable while letting most casual users enjoy the app at no cost. Heavy collectors with libraries of 100+ volumes are PRO’s target audience.
Importing more than 50 on FREE
If you import a JSON or CSV file that would exceed 50 volumes, the import will:
- Add volumes one by one until it hits the cap.
- Skip the rest with a “FREE tier limit reached” notice.
- Show you which volumes weren’t imported so you can decide what to do.
