Granting camera permission
Manga Vault uses your phone’s camera to scan barcodes. The first time you open the Scan tab, your phone will ask whether you want to allow camera access.
First-time prompt
When the prompt appears, tap Allow (iOS) or While using the app (Android). The camera will activate and you can start scanning right away.
I tapped “Don’t Allow” by mistake
No problem — you can re-grant permission from your phone’s Settings.
On iOS
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Manga Vault.
- Tap Camera and switch it to On.
- Return to Manga Vault and open the Scan tab again.
Or, faster: tap the Open Settings button on the Scan tab when the camera-blocked screen appears — it deep-links you straight to the right page.
On Android
- Open Settings → Apps → Manga Vault → Permissions.
- Tap Camera and switch to Allow.
- Return to Manga Vault.
Why we need camera access
The camera is only used to detect barcodes when you’re actively on the Scan tab. We never:
- Record video or take photos
- Access your camera in the background
- Upload any image data — barcode detection happens entirely on your device
The moment you leave the Scan tab, the camera turns off.
I don’t want to grant camera permission
That’s fine — you can still add manga manually by typing the 13-digit ISBN. Tap Enter ISBN Manually on the Scan tab. See Entering an ISBN manually.
The scan tab is black or frozen
This usually means another app (e.g., your camera app, Zoom, FaceTime) is holding the camera, or the camera permission isn’t granted. Try:
- Force-close any other apps using the camera.
- Re-check camera permission in your phone’s Settings.
- Force-close and reopen Manga Vault.
If the issue persists, restart your phone — that almost always clears it.
