Language & edition filters
Manga is published in many languages, and many of you collect across more than one — VIZ in English, Carlsen in German, Star Comics in Italian, and so on. Manga Vault tracks each language release as its own edition of the same title, and gives you tools to browse in the languages you collect.
Everything on this page is free for everyone and requires app version 1.0.4 or later. If you only collect in one language, you don’t need to change anything — the app behaves exactly as before until you opt in.
Set your preferred languages
- Open Settings.
- In the Data section, tap Preferred Languages.
- Pick one or more languages, or choose Show all (the default).
With preferred languages set:
- Discover recommendations focus on editions in your languages.
- Search ranks your languages first when a title exists in several.
You can change this anytime — it only affects what’s shown, never what’s in your collection.
Switch editions on a series page
When a title exists in more than one language, its series page shows an Editions row near the top — one chip per language, with the publisher underneath. Tap a chip to jump to that edition’s page (volumes, covers, and release dates for that specific release).
If a title only has one edition, the row doesn’t appear at all.
Search shows one card per title
Searching for a title that exists in several languages shows one result card, not duplicates. If other language editions exist, the card notes it — for example, “Also in Deutsch · Italiano.” Open the series and use the Editions row to reach the one you collect.
Filter the release calendar
The release calendar has a Language filter alongside the Publisher filter. It only appears when the releases in view span more than one language, and it defaults to All — so your calendar never turns unexpectedly empty.
Filter your library
In your Library’s filter panel you’ll find two more controls when they’re useful:
- Language — chips for each language in your collection (multi-select, including an “Unknown” bucket for items without language info).
- Publisher — a picker listing the publishers on your shelves.
Both only appear when your collection actually spans more than one language or publisher. These filters are temporary — they reset the next time you open the app.
Scanning isn’t affected
Barcode scanning always was language-aware: scanning a German volume’s ISBN lands on the German edition automatically. See Scanning international editions. If an edition you own isn’t in our catalog yet, you can request it — see Edition not in catalog.
