Creating a custom shelf

Custom shelves let you organize your collection however you want — by genre, mood, format, author, or anything else.

How to create a shelf

1. Open the Manage Shelves screen — either from Settings → Manage Shelves, or from the FAB on your Library tab → Manage Shelves.
2. Tap the + (plus) button at the bottom of the screen.
3. Enter a name (e.g., “Shonen”, “Dark Fantasy”, “Box Sets”, “Re-read Pile”).
4. Tap a color from the swatches to color-code your shelf.
5. Tap an icon from the icon picker.
6. Tap Save.

Your new shelf appears immediately in your shelf list and in shelf pickers throughout the app.

Shelf names

A shelf name should be short and meaningful — what would help you find this group later. Some patterns that work:

• Genre: Romance, Shonen, Slice of Life
• Mood: Comfort Reads, Spooky Stuff
• Format: Hardcover, Box Sets, Imports
• People: Greg’s Picks, Birthday Wishlist
• Project: 2026 Re-reads, For My Niece

You can have up to ~30 characters in a shelf name.

Shelf colors

Shelves are color-coded to make them visually distinguishable. Pick a color that makes sense to you — there’s no enforced meaning. The color shows up:

• As a chip color in the shelf filter row.
• As a subtle accent on the shelf card in Manage Shelves.
• Behind the icon when you preview the shelf.

Shelf icons

Pick from a set of available icons. Choose something that hints at what’s on the shelf:

• 🎭 Drama for theater/drama series
• ⚔️ Sword for action/shonen
• 💜 Heart for romance
• 📦 Box for box sets

The icon is purely decorative — it doesn’t change behavior.

FREE tier shelf limit

On FREE, you can have up to 3 custom shelves in addition to the Favorites default. The Favorites default does not count.

PRO removes this cap entirely — make as many shelves as you want.

If you try to create a 4th shelf on FREE, you’ll see an upgrade prompt. See Shelf limit on FREE.

After creating a shelf

Once your shelf exists, add volumes to it:

• One at a time — From the manga detail page, tap Add to Shelf, pick your new shelf, tap Done.
• In bulk — Long-press in your Library to enter selection mode, select volumes, tap the Shelf icon, pick your shelf, tap Add to N Shelves.

Editing or deleting later

Shelves can be edited (name, icon, color) or deleted at any time. See Editing or deleting a custom shelf.
