Marking a loan as returned

When a borrowed volume comes back, mark it as returned to close the loan and move it to the Returned tab in your Lending Tracker.

How to mark as returned

From the manga detail page

  1. Open the manga detail page of the lent volume.
  2. Tap the Lent Out banner at the top of the page.
  3. Tap Mark as Returned.
  4. Confirm.

From the Lending Tracker

  1. Open the Lending Tracker (Social tab → Lending Tracker).
  2. On the Active tab, tap the loan entry.
  3. The loan detail view appears.
  4. Tap Mark as Returned.
  5. Confirm.

Both methods produce the same result.

What happens

  • The loan moves from the Active tab to the Returned tab.
  • The lent indicator disappears from your Library view of the volume.
  • The Lent Out banner disappears from the manga detail page.
  • Your stats update: Currently Lent decreases by 1; Returned increases by 1.
  • The returned date is set to today.

Backdating returns

If the volume was returned a few days ago and you forgot to log it, you can edit the returned date:

  1. After marking as Returned, the entry appears on the Returned tab.
  2. Tap the entry to edit.
  3. Tap the Returned Date field and pick the actual date.
  4. Save.

This keeps your lending history accurate.

What if the volume comes back damaged?

Manga Vault doesn’t track condition changes between lend and return — we treat it as the same volume regardless. If the condition has changed:

  1. Mark the loan as returned (as normal).
  2. Open the manga detail page.
  3. Update the Condition to reflect the current state (Mint → Good, Good → Fair, etc.).

Adjustments to condition reflect the value calculations going forward.

What if the volume isn’t returned?

If you’ve decided it’s effectively lost (a long-term borrow or gift), you have two options:

  1. Mark as returned anyway — Closes the lending record. The volume still appears in your collection. Use this if you’d rather just close the books.

  2. Delete the volume from your collection — Remove it from your Library entirely (since you no longer have it). The lending record stays in your history.

Neither is right or wrong; it’s about how you want to track it.

Multiple volumes at once

If a friend returns several volumes at once, you’ll need to mark each one as returned individually (no bulk action yet). Future versions may add a “Mark these N volumes as returned” flow.

Tip: Take a moment to review

Before marking as returned, glance at the volume — note any new wear, missing dust jackets, etc. — and update condition accordingly. It only takes 10 seconds and your collection records stay accurate.
