Tracking reading progress — Unread, Reading, Completed

Manga Vault tracks your reading progress with a 3-state model: Unread, Reading, or Completed. You can also log your current page and track re-reads.

The three states

How to set reading progress

On the manga detail page, find the Reading Progress section. There’s a 3-button picker:

• Tap Unread to reset progress.
• Tap Reading to mark as in-progress.
• Tap Completed to mark as finished.

Automatic state transitions

Some transitions happen automatically:

• Unread → Reading when you log a current page > 0.
• Reading → Completed when you set the current page to the total page count (or beyond), if total pages is known.
• Completed → Reading if you mark a re-read in progress.

Quick adjust buttons

Below the status picker, you’ll see four quick-adjust buttons: −10, −1, +1, +10. Tap them to change your current page in increments. Each tap updates page and triggers a haptic pulse.

For setting an exact page number, tap the Current Page field to open a numeric input modal.

What happens when you mark a volume Completed

• A confirmation modal asks if you’re sure.
• The volume’s finishedReadingAt is set to the current time.
• Your timesRead counter increments by 1.
• The status changes to Completed in your Library and on your stats.
• Any series-completion achievements check (e.g., “Finished a 10-volume series”).

What happens when you mark a Reading volume Completed

Same as above. Reading state has no separate “finished” event — Completed is the finished state.

Visualizing reading progress

In your Library:

• Grid view — A small progress bar at the bottom of the cover for Reading volumes.
• List view — A progress bar with “Page X of Y” caption.
• Manga detail page — A larger progress bar with percentage.

Filtering by reading status

In the Library filters, you can filter to:

• All — show every volume.
• Unread — only volumes you haven’t started.
• Reading — currently in-progress.
• Completed — finished volumes.

This is great for finding “what should I read next” (Unread) or “what was I reading” (Reading).

When total pages is missing

Some volumes don’t have page-count data in our catalog. In that case the page progress bar shows “Tap to set total pages” — see What “Set Total Pages” does.

Reading progress and friends

Your reading progress is part of your profile and ties to the volumes in your collection — friends can see it when your Show Collection privacy toggle is on (the default). When Show Collection is off, friends can’t see specific volumes or your progress on them.
