My collection isn’t syncing
If changes you make aren’t appearing on your other devices, or you suspect cloud sync is broken, here’s how to diagnose.
Step 1 — Check your internet
Cloud sync needs an internet connection. Open another app that uses internet (browser, email) and verify it works.
If your internet is fine but Manga Vault isn’t syncing, continue.
Step 2 — Check the sync status banner
If sync is failing, a red or amber banner appears at the top of the screen (“Sync failed”). Tap it to retry.
If the retry succeeds, sync is restored. Otherwise see Step 3.
Step 3 — Force a manual sync
- Open Settings.
- Scroll to About.
- Tap Catalog Version to trigger a sync of catalog and account data.
This forces a sync even if the automatic one isn’t catching changes.
Step 4 — Pull-to-refresh
On the Library tab, scroll all the way to the top and pull down to refresh. This is a manual full re-fetch of your collection from the cloud.
Step 5 — Sign out and sign back in
If the issue persists:
- Settings → Sign Out.
- Sign back in with your email and password.
Initial sign-in pulls your full collection fresh from the cloud. This resets any stale local sync state.
You won’t lose data — sign-in pulls everything from the cloud.
Step 6 — Check pending changes
In Settings (or the Sync Status section, when visible), you may see a count of “pending changes” — these are your local edits that haven’t synced yet.
If pending changes have been stuck for a while, force a sync. They should clear.
Specific symptoms
Changes I made on my phone aren’t on my tablet
- On the tablet, pull-to-refresh on the Library tab.
- Force-close and reopen Manga Vault on the tablet.
- Verify both devices are signed into the same account (Settings → check email).
A volume I added has disappeared
- Pull-to-refresh and check again.
- Verify your filters aren’t excluding it (e.g., filtered to Wishlist when the volume is Owned).
- If genuinely missing, contact support — we can investigate.
Sync seems slow
- Manga Vault uses incremental syncing — most syncs are seconds.
- Large initial syncs (after sign-in or long absence) take longer.
- Sync over slow networks (4G with weak signal, congested WiFi) may also be slow.
Step 7 — Last resort: reinstall
If nothing works:
- Sign out.
- Delete and reinstall the app.
- Sign back in.
Initial sign-in pulls everything fresh. Note: pending unsynced changes are lost in this process — only do this if you’re sure your local changes are already synced.
Why might sync genuinely fail?
Possible causes:
- Outage on our backend (rare).
- Your auth token expired and the app didn’t refresh it cleanly.
- Network connectivity issues we can’t see.
For prolonged failures, contact support.
Tip
If you frequently make changes on multiple devices, consider doing your edits primarily on one device and treating the others as read-only. This minimizes sync complexity.
