A volume I added shows the wrong cover
You added a volume, but the cover art doesn’t match what’s on your physical copy. Here’s why this happens and what to do.
Common reasons
1. Different printing or edition
Some volumes have multiple printings with different cover art:
- Original printing vs reprint
- Standard edition vs special edition
- Different territory’s edition art (e.g., the cover for the Japanese edition vs the English edition)
We try to use the most common cover, but variants exist. Your physical volume might be a less-common variant.
2. Catalog catalog mistake
Occasionally we have an entry with the wrong cover (mis-mapped during catalog import or a typo in our data). Less common but possible.
3. Cover hasn’t loaded yet
Sometimes the cover image is still loading and shows a placeholder. Pull-to-refresh on the Library tab or open the manga detail page to trigger a refresh.
How to fix
Step 1 — Confirm the volume is correct
Check the title, volume number, ISBN, and author against your physical copy. If those all match but the cover is different, it’s a variant cover issue.
If those don’t match, the catalog has the wrong volume entirely — let us know via support.
Step 2 — Force a catalog sync
The cover for that volume might have been corrected recently:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Catalog Version to force a sync.
- Re-open the manga detail page.
If the cover updates, we corrected it on our end. If it doesn’t, the catalog entry’s cover is what we have.
Step 3 — Report the variant
If the cover in the catalog isn’t the variant you have, contact support with:
- The ISBN (barcode on your volume).
- A photo of your volume’s cover (front).
- A note that you believe this is a variant we don’t have.
We may add the variant cover or mention it in the catalog.
Why don’t we always have the right cover?
A few reasons:
- Our cover sources don’t include every variant. Multiple editions can share an ISBN sometimes (legally — they’re “the same” book); we usually get one cover.
- Cover changes over time. A series may get reprints with refreshed art; we sometimes lag behind on updating.
- Localized covers — A volume’s English cover may differ from its French/Italian/etc. cover. Localized editions get their own ISBNs and we usually have correct covers, but exceptions exist.
Cover-related issues vs metadata issues
- Wrong cover, right title/series/ISBN — Variant cover issue. We may correct or you may need to accept that we use the most common cover.
- Wrong title or series — Metadata error. Always worth reporting.
- No cover at all (placeholder showing) — Cover image hasn’t been uploaded for that ISBN yet. Tell us; we’ll add.
Can I upload my own cover?
Not currently. Cover art is sourced from our catalog. We may add user-supplied covers in the future for cases where the official cover is wrong.
For now, the cover is what it is in our catalog.
Tip
For most users, an occasional mis-matched cover (variant edition) is fine — the volume is still tracked correctly. Don’t sweat it. For collectors who care about specific variants, log a support ticket and we’ll look at variant cataloging.
