Friend requests (Pending, Sent, Accepted)
When you send or receive a friend request, it lives in one of three states: Pending, Sent, or Accepted. Your Friends list has tabs for each.
The three tabs
In your Friends list (Social tab → Friends), you’ll see:
- Friends — Accepted friendships. The default tab.
- Pending — Requests you’ve received that you haven’t responded to.
- Sent — Requests you’ve sent that haven’t been accepted yet.
Receiving a request (Pending tab)
When someone sends you a friend request:
- A badge or count appears on the Friends tab in the Social hub.
- Open the Pending tab to see the request.
- Each request shows:
- The sender’s avatar
- Their display name and username
- A short bio (if they’ve set one)
- Accept and Reject buttons.
Tap Accept to become friends. Tap Reject to dismiss the request — the sender isn’t notified you rejected.
Sending a request (Sent tab)
When you send a friend request:
- It immediately appears in your Sent tab.
- Each entry shows the recipient and a status of “Awaiting response”.
You can cancel a sent request from the Sent tab — tap the cancel icon next to the entry.
What if my request gets rejected?
If the recipient rejects, your sent request disappears from your Sent tab without notification. We don’t tell you the recipient rejected — to keep things low-friction.
Accepting a request
Tap Accept on a Pending request. The friendship is created instantly, and you both gain access to:
- Each other’s collections (subject to privacy settings).
- Compare collections (In Common / Unique tabs on each profile).
- Lending each other volumes.
- Seeing each other’s activity status (subject to privacy).
The new friend appears in your Friends tab.
Rate limits on actions
We rate-limit how quickly you can accept/reject requests to prevent accidental double-taps. Don’t worry — under normal use you’d never notice.
Limit on pending requests
You can have many pending requests at once. There’s no hard cap on how many people can request to be your friend.
Tip: Decline politely-but-firmly
If you don’t want to be friends with someone, just Reject their request. They won’t be notified, and they can’t repeatedly send requests if they keep getting rejected (we throttle this).
Lending status of past friends
If you removed a friend (or they removed you) while a lending record was active, the lending record stays — it just shows the borrower as a former friend with their last-known display name.
